Ronaldo and Mourinho, finalists for Player and Coach of the Year 2012

Real Madrid coach José Mourinho, has been chosen as one of three finalists to for the FIFA Coach of the Year award for 2012. Cristiano Ronaldo is also among the three candidates to take home the Ballon D’or in what will be the third edition of this award ceremony since it is has been jointly organised by FIFA and the France Football magazine and will be held on 7th January in Zurich. Their contributions have been instrumental in Real Madrid winning the record breaking league title and the Spanish Super Cup and have lead to them being finalist for the awards that are decided by the votes of the captains and coaches of national teams and representatives from the media that the French magazine chooses.

FIFA and France Football announced in Sao Paulo the names of the three coaches who have received the most votes for the title of FIFA Coach of Year 2012. José Mourinho, who won the award in its first edition in 2010, is listed alongside Vicente del Bosque and Pep Guardiola. The record breaking league winning season with 121 goals and 100 points and the Spanish Super Cup title win against Barcelona are what makes him worthy of being among the coach of the year finalists.

In all of those wins Cristiano Ronaldo was instrumental and he is a finalist for the 2012 Ballon d’Or, awarded for to the World Player of the Year, alongside Iniesta and Messi. The Portuguese striker had his best goal scoring season with 60 goals. 46 in the league, 10 in the Champions League, three in the Copa del Rey and one in the Super Cup. Furthermore, the Real Madrid player was one of the top scorers in the last European Championships and led his team to the semi-finals. The prize will be awarded this year for the third time and the winner will be revealed at the gala in Zurich on 7th January 2013
